COLBA Allerton High School wins Basketball England Education Institution Of The Year.

Everyone at the City Of Leeds programme would like to congratulate Allerton High School, home of the City Of Leeds Basketball Academy, who have been honoured in the Basketball England Awards 2023.

The Basketball England awards programme has returned for 2023 and sees nominations gathered from the public across the 10 English regions, with winners selected in partnership with the Regional Management Committee Chairs.

We are delighted to announce that Allerton High School has been awarded as Educational Institution of the year for the Yorkshire region in the Basketball England Awards. The City Of Leeds Basketball Academy has been based at Allerton High since 2014 and this year our partnership celebrates a decade of offering high-level provision to the young people of Leeds and the wider-region. which has seen no less than 10 players go on to receive scholarships domestically and in the US.

The whole-school pathway that we provide has ensured that young people engage in basketball early, with the primary school feeder network and the high school ensuring both curricular and extra-curricular outlets.

COLBC Director Matt Newby was delighted to see both the school and the Academy recognised in these awards:

First and foremost, we must acknowledge the outstanding environment that Allerton High School provides both in the lower school and post-16 provision. This affords our young people the opportunity to match a high-quality learning environment, in which they can access a fantastic portfolio of A-Levels and Vocational Qualifications, which has consistently seen the young people within our programme over the years, ensure entrance to higher education both home and abroad. The Basketball Academy has a 100% record of student-athletes going on to Universities and fulfilling their academic aspirations, whilst using basketball as a vehicle to pave their way.

Grant Clynes, Head of Sixth Form at Allerton High School shared in the excitement of the recognition from the National Governing Body:

"We are extremely proud of the provision our basketball programme provides for our young people. Students consistently achieve academically and regularly reach brilliant Post 18 destinations whilst engaging in brilliant quality coaching. This year, this excellent programme has resulted in a much deserved double championship season, which is testament to the hard work of the students and the coaching staff."

We would like to thank the Regional Management Committee for this prestigious award.
