City of Leeds Basketball Club are excited to announce that Dr Dave Piggott has committed to the club for the 2021-22 season. He will begin his tenure with our U11 & U12 boys categories this week.

Dave has been coaching for 25 years and has been involved previously with national league programmes in Leicestershire and Lincolnshire. He also served as an assistant coach in the BBL with Coach Newby for several seasons.

He is a highly successful academic with an MSc and PHD in sports coaching, and currently leads the Masters in Sports Coaching at Leeds Beckett University.

His expertise in talent pathways and coach development, has seen him work as a consultant with numerous national governing bodies and UK Sport.  Furthermore he has worked within the Football Association specifically looking at talent ID.

Dave Commented on the new opportunity:

"It feels like a good time to be returning to the floor and the opportunity to work at the base of the COLBC pathway and impact the next generation of players and coaches is an exciting and rewarding proposition."

COLBC Director Matt Newby was clearly pleased with the news:

"Dave's background in the sport, coupled with his extensive work in the academic domain, make him a natural choice to impact our younger age categories and look at our pathway with a fresh set of eyes. He will be initially working with our U11 & U12 Boys whilst providing mentorship to our new cohort of young coaches. This only strengthens our offer as a club, and I am excited about the impact this appointment will have."
