ALLEN LOOKING AT PROGRAMMES ASCENSION WITH 2021/22 CLASS

September 15th 2021

City of Leeds Basketball Club are excited to announce the return of Ben Allen to our coaching team.

Ben has been involved in the City of Leeds program from its inception and has contributed significantly to the growth and development of the program both in the community and the junior national league.

He has fostered the talent of a number of players who have gone on to regional and national team representation.

Ben has been coaching in the Leeds and West Yorkshire Community for over 16 years and is passionate about developing the women's game. His tenure in 2021-22 will see him working with one of the most exciting groups in the City of Leeds Pathway, the U12's and U14's girls, which has seen significant growth throughout the last 6 months following the clubs return to training post-pandemic.

Ben currently works in primary education at Greenmount Primary School as a Sports Specialist and HLTA.  He has coached both West Yorkshire and Yorkshire representative teams at the annual regional performance tournaments and continues to contribute to the COLBF's community initiatives.

Ben commented on returning to the floor and the expansion of the girls program:

"It's simply great to be back on the floor and the gym is buzzing, we now have close to 50 young girls in the U12's and U14's training groups, who will benefit from both regional and national league competition this season. The club's work over the summer months, including several All Girls initiatives, has seen a positive response with girls from all quarters of the city, and the broader West Yorkshire region getting involved. I am looking forward to working with what is one of the most talented generations I have had the privilege to work with."

Director of COLBC Matt Newby Commented:

"Ben has been involved with the program from the outset and fundamentally he loves to coach, this translates to high quality teaching and delivery. His involvement in the girl's and women's game has been constant and consistent and he has passion for driving the women's sporting agenda which is so important. Following our summer projects and camps we have seen a significant increase and demand for more All Girls activities. This is testimony to the hard work of all the coaches we have active in our community program and we are excited about providing more opportunities."
